Fashion Week Teaches Us About Bespoke Customization for Any Wardrobe

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is where the world’s most influential designers unveil their latest collections, showcasing trends that will soon make their way into closets around the globe. But as any fashion enthusiast knows, the key to style is not just about following trends — it’s about personalizing them to fit your lifestyle and space. Fashion and Functionality: What NYFW Shows Us About Personalization

At NYFW, designers focus on details — from the cut of a coat to the finishing touches on a handbag. Every element is thoughtfully crafted to suit the individual, and this attention to detail is a great reminder that personalization goes beyond what you wear. Your wardrobe storage should reflect your unique needs, taste, and space constraints. Whether you have a walk-in closet large enough for runway-ready gowns or a small reach-in filled with everyday essentials, having a storage solution tailored to your collection is essential.

The Perfect Fit: Custom Storage for Every Closet Size

Just like a couture dress is tailored to fit its wearer perfectly, your closet should be designed to fit your space and your wardrobe seamlessly. At Behind Closed Doors, we specialize in creating custom closet solutions for any size wardrobe. Whether you need space to organize your growing collection of seasonal fashion finds or require a compact solution for a smaller space, our bespoke designs ensure that every inch of your closet is maximized for both style and function.

Walk-In Closets: Your Personal Fashion Runway

For those with expansive walk-in closets, NYFW offers endless inspiration for creating a stylish, luxurious space. We can help you design a closet that mirrors the elegance of a designer showroom. Think custom drawers, shelving for your shoes and handbags, and elegant lighting to highlight your most prized pieces. Whether you want a display for your haute couture or a functional area to organize your day-to-day wardrobe, we’ll work with you to create the ultimate fashion haven.

Reach-In Closets: Maximizing Space with Style

Not everyone has the luxury of a massive walk-in closet, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style or organization. Much like how designers at NYFW work within parameters to create breathtaking looks, we can transform even the smallest of spaces into functional and stylish areas. Our reach-in closet solutions are fully customizable, offering features like pull-out racks, adjustable shelving, and smart storage for accessories, so every piece of your wardrobe is easily accessible and beautifully organized.

Bespoke Customization for Accessories

Just as every accessory on the runway complements a well-thought-out ensemble, your closet should accommodate more than just clothing. Custom solutions for jewelry, scarves, belts, and shoes can elevate your wardrobe experience. Imagine drawers with built-in dividers for jewelry, pull-out trays for shoes, and dedicated spaces for hats or bags. Our customization options allow you to create a space that mirrors the attention to detail seen at NYFW.

Sustainability and Storage: Curating a Conscious Closet

With sustainability taking center stage at this year’s NYFW, curating a wardrobe that reflects both fashion and eco-conscious values has never been more important. A well-organized, custom closet can help you maintain a sustainable approach to fashion by encouraging mindful purchases and proper care of your clothing. Investing in a thoughtfully designed storage system can ensure that your clothes, shoes, and accessories last longer, reducing the need for constant replacement and supporting sustainable fashion practices.

Tailor Your Closet Like Your Wardrobe

New York Fashion Week is a celebration of creativity, individuality, and design — and your wardrobe should reflect that same sense of personalization. At Behind Closed Doors, we take inspiration from the world of fashion to create customized storage solutions that are as stylish as they are functional. Whether you have a small wardrobe or a vast collection, our bespoke closet designs are tailored to suit your space and your fashion needs.

How to Purge your Closet

November is here, which means cold weather is right around the corner! As you’re pulling out all of your cold-weather gear, why not spend a little extra time purging your closet of pieces that you no longer wear or want? We know closet purging can seem like a chore, but trust us, you’ll  be thankful to shed the excess clutter so that getting dressed is easy and fun again! Here are our top three tips for purging your closet.

Try Everything On

Even if you know you want to keep something, trying the item on is essential to the purging process. It makes you feel and see the piece of clothing in a singular setting so that you are able to make a decision on whether it stays or goes. The top reasons people get rid of clothing are: it’s dated, it’s worn, and it no longer makes you feel your best.

Sort Items into Piles

We recommend sorting your clothes into four piles: keep, discard, maybe, and seasonal. The seasonal pile contains items you want to keep but that are out of season. The keep pile can go back into your closet; the discard pile can be donated or consigned; the maybe pile can be stored in a bin in your closet so you have the option to bring a few items back into your wardrobe if you decide you need them; and the seasonal pile can be stored away until the proper season rolls around.

Wait a Few Weeks

Live with your wardrobe for a few weeks before adding anything new. That will give you time to make sure you truly love the items you kept and to see if there are any holes in your wardrobe now that you’ve purged some items. You’re looking for quality over quantity so be sure any additions are items you truly love!

As a general rule, if you haven’t worn anything in over a year, it should probably go to the maybe bin—unless it’s special occasion wear or has sentimental value. The maybe bin is a great way to purge without remorse. If you end up pulling out an item to wear, you can go ahead and add it back into your wardrobe. Items that aren’t worn within a year should be donated or consigned.

Now that you’ve purged your wardrobe, it’s time to start thinking about whether your closet is working for you. From reach-in to walk-in to fully custom boutique closets, let us create the closet of your dreams at Behind Closed Doors! Contact us today!
